Boston Scientific HoloTable

What seemed futuristic became a reality in Boston Scientific Brasil's portfolio. During the first edition of the BSB Innovation Symposium, held in May in São Paulo, the brand presented the HoloTable Experience developed by Abduct Studios. That flirts with the metaverse and promises to optimize healthcare training. While the HotoTable projects a hologram onto its surface, users wearing specific glasses using Microsoft's HoloLens technology interact in a mixed, multiplayer virtual reality.

This means that a multidisciplinary team composed of surgeons, auxiliary physicians, and nurses, for example, can simulate complex procedures in high-quality avatar patients. The significant differentials of this solution, when compared to other virtual realities already on the market, are precisely in these two possibilities: making more than one person simultaneously participate in the simulation (even though they are in different locations) and guaranteeing the coexistence of the natural world with the virtual world. "We are bringing something innovative and not seen anywhere in the world," says Flávio Toledo, director of the Peripheral Interventions business unit, responsible for developing the project in partnership with specialists in virtual reality.

According to Toledo, the immersion of the clinical team in the procedures will transform medical education. "We could, for example, have two specialist professors installed in two different places around the world interacting in the same virtual environment and explaining the procedure to dozens of other people also spread across the globe. That's because the devices connect to the internet and still have a camera that allows the transmission of the real world", he explains.
